The monuments: the Basilica of Saint Mark and the fascinating square, the Ducal Palace, the Rialto Bridge over the Grand Canal to the Arsenal and the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute and the Bridge of Sighs built at the beginning of the 17th century connecting the Ducal Palace with the Prison. The bridge was given this name because according to a legend, the prisoners as they passed over the bridge sighed heavily as this was the last time they would see the outside world.
